Hurricanes of 2004

The Atlantic hurricane season of 2004 was extremely active, with several intense hurricanes devastating various parts of the Caribbean and Florida.

  •     Hurricane Alex                  Alex's eyewall hit Ocracoke Island and Hatteras Village, NC (Cat. 2)

  •     Tropical Storm Bonnie    Landfall in FL panhandle as a tropical storm, remnants spawned tornadoes that caused several deaths

  •     Hurricane Charley            Landfalls in Cuba (Cat. 3), Florida (Cat. 4), and North Carolina (Cat. 1)

  •     Tropical Storm Gaston    Landfall in South Carolina as a strong tropical storm, caused deadly flooding in Richmond, VA

  •     Hurricane Frances           Landfalls in the Central Bahamas (Cat. 4, 3, 2), south-central Florida coast (Cat. 2), and Florida Panhandle (TS)

  •     Hurricane Ivan                   After a deadly rampage through the Caribbean, Ivan crashed ashore at Gulf Shores, AL (Cat. 3), causing billions in damage.

  •     Hurricane Jeanne             Jeanne hit Puerto Rico, killed over 1500 in Haiti, then slammed (Cat. 3) Florida's storm-weary east coast in the same spot as Frances.
