Fastest Known Times (FKT's) for Arthurs Rock via the Timber TrailArthurs Rock is one of the more notable mountain landmarks visible from Fort Collins (but Horsetooth is the domineering landmark). A short and popular hiking trail ascends to the top in only about 1.5 miles, but there is another longer route which is less frequently traveled, but at least as nice, as far as scenery is concerned. The Timber Trail rises up a broad ridge via switchbacks, ascends through the wild Well Gulch, makes a foray into the forest, and then gains the ridge and follows an old road bed over to Arthurs Rock. This route includes up and downs, passing through at 3 small descents on the way up to Arthurs Rock. This route passes through prime wildlife habitat and is a great winter hike/snowshoe. The trail is overgrown and washed out in places, making it dangerous for downhill running. Top elevation: Base elevation: Total vertical gain: ~1400 feet Total distance: ~7.5 miles Start: At first step of the trail right at the parking lot edge. Middle: Must go to the highest point of the Arthurs Rock summit (don't stop at the base of the rocks). If other hikers are at the summit, circle the summit and start back. End: Same as start. NOTE: overall FKT times are trailhead-to-trailhead times and DO include time spent at the summit.
